To soften hardened brown sugar
Add the sugar to a screw-top jar together with a slice of apple. Refresh the apple slice when it browns.
Coffee Bean sugar
Add some freshly ground coffee beans tied in a small piece of muslin to a screw-top jar of caster sugar.
Cheats Caramel
To make a very quick caramel sauce for ice cream. Boil together brown sugar, butter and cream until it thickens into a light sauce - delicious!
